Meet your coach: Laura Ainscough

laura ainscough - online coach helping you arrive at a confident decision

Hello, my name is Laura Ainscough - (MSc. Reg Psych).

First things first.

I am not a Pollyanna coach, who will respond with pom poms and butterfly emojis to everything you share.

You are a high-functioning individual.
You're smart and organised.
Usually you can look around and enjoy the life you've built for yourself.
So you're not looking for a fluffy cheerleader.

As a psychologist who also coaches, my primary starting point for approaching my coaching work with you is: respecting the fact you are a grown adult, with your own take on the world, and your own beliefs.

You are here to find and occupy your place in the world, and it's only human to have struggles in that - no matter the shape, size, or texture of those wishes and goals.

Respect for people, health, and happiness is fundamental to my work.

There are no pre-set rules or ideas about your choices, or the obstacles and difficulties you face.

Laura has a long history of helping people make calm, clear decisions

One of the reasons I choose to be a coach is I have had the joy of seeing that putting in the time and focus does make a difference to clients.
Things move forward and turn a corner which is motivating for them, and for me.

I use real tools, an awake mind, and a you-matter approach to help you get clear on what your options are - so you can sit in the calm and spaciousness that this brings.

I am formally trained in psychology and psychotherapy, which means I come with 20+ years of industry experience under my belt.  This has included the intensive field of EAP (Employee Assistance Programme), where clients can be train drivers, digital nomads, or CFOs from one hour to the next. My experience has not been limited to psychology settings however.  I have also done the hard yards as an business owner, partnering over the long term with the 5-star Four Seasons' Hotel, and then earning an MBA in Europe.

I am not here to replicate my life-choices with yours, however.
Let's be clear about that.

Our coaching time is about you.

For you.

Helping you to focus and concentrate on the things that matter.

Exhaustion, burnout, and anxiousness
can deeply hinder our ability to make good decisions
- ones that serve our best, long-term interests.

When we are tired and worn out,
it helps to try something different
to break out of a cycle of exhausted and flighty
thinking and thought.

Let's do that together.

Get back to your natural flow state.
Less second-guessing and overthinking things.

Reconnect with significant others.
Be emotionally available and present.

See long-distance vision again.
Plan ahead with purpose.

Notice worries, instead of being consumed by them.

Free-up mental space to get work done & be a healthy colleague.

Connect back into your inner self as safe, familiar terrain.

HR asked me to meet with Laura when I had been brought on for an special mission but was so badly stressed that I had taken weeks of sick leave, just to cope.

Laura helped me identify why I had been affected so badly in that environment and helped me understand the unexpected impact of the project dynamics through a lens bigger than the workplace.

With Laura's intelligence and support, I was able to prepare for a return to work, where my own health and happiness would not be compromised.

I recommend her for anyone needing profound effective support. She's the real deal in terms of wisdom and care.

We do not hesitate to bring Laura into executive coaching meetings because her presence and style of conversation help build confidence and often generates real-world solutions for the specific employee issues we are facing.

I had an idea for a career pivot and contacted Laura I because  I wanted to have some accountability for looking at it and taking next steps.
As it happened, what I realised from doing the work together is that I did not actually want the pivot I had thought of at all!
I did want a change but not the one that I had thought was 'a good idea'.
The key to my redirection was that I began to notice what I really wanted to do, instead of what I thought I should do.

Laura was focused and present with every statement made and every pause, carefully keeping track of where we had come from and why we were there.
I had a homework task each week, which helped me keep up momentum on the decision and have a clear direction for my thinking.
